Was kind of disappointed with the small transaction I had here. I saw all the good reviews so I headed over to see what was wrong with my 15+ year old car, which always breaks down. They charge a $55 fee just to take a look at it which wasn't mentioned when I called in, so I was pretty put off. They then call me later that it's just the battery and tried to sell me a battery and install over $200. After that quote I decided that this overpriced garage was not for me. They were friendly enough so that gained them an extra star. Good luck with your experience.
Hi Yvonne, my name is Pat and I am the owner of Performance Tune. I’m sorry I did not get a chance to meet you when you were in our shop, but I wanted to take a minute to respond to your review, and to explain how and why we do things at Performance Tune. Electrical problems can be tricky, especially with older vehicles. Our starting and charging system diagnosis begins with inspecting the battery condition, testing it’s ability to perform in cold weather, and also verifying that it has the proper hold-down and tray per DOT regulations. Next we inspect the starter for electrical draw, and we test the alternator's charging performance. Then we check the entire system for parasitic draw, and look for broken, loose, and rusty ground connections. Finally, we check all the belts on the charging system. Performance Tune recommends and sells Interstate Batteries, a premium product with a nationwide warranty. Our battery installation service includes terminal cleaning and sealing, and terminal-end replacement on the battery cables if necessary. These services require some time, tools, and talent, and that is why we charge the fees that we do. In your case the diagnosis was $55, the battery was $120, and the installation was $26. We believe that we provide a solid value to our customers, though we understand it may not work for everyone. If a customer asks us to “just put in a battery”, of course we will do that.
